More Posts Coming
I just got back home today from housesitting. I didn’t have access to the internet, thus the lack of posts.
My seedlings have been getting watered, although some were really dry this morning so I gave them an extra long drink.
Seed Sprouting and Snow
Both of my Cosmos and Morning Glories have sprouted! I’ll take a picture of them once they’re a little bigger.
Although it feels like spring inside with plants sprouting, it definitely feels like winter outside. It snowed this morning and for a bit this afternoon. The drive to work this morning was chaos. Hopefully the sun will melt most of the snow tomorrow.
Recycling and Green Gardening
Having just started gardening this year I don\t have a lot of equipment. I don’t have grow lights or a ton of pots or shovels.
This posed a bit of a problem for indoor sowing. What do I put the seeds in? I decided that instead of buying a ton of peat pots that I’d only be able to use for one growing season I would recycle containers as much as I could. So I’ve been using milk cartons that have been washed out, cleaned, and cut in half to plant my seedlings. I also have a friend saving hers for me. I’ve also been using plastic food containers, like apple sauce and Jello for sowing seeds in and bigger ones like margarine containers to but bigger seedlings in. I’ve also been using plastic beer cups to put bigger plants in. Although they were new when I first used them, i plan on using them year after year.
I’ve also been reusing the cardboard trays that water bottles come in. I cover them in garbage bags so that they\re waterproof (I can cover 4 or 5 trays from one large garbage bag if I cut them out properly) and I can put all the containers with plants in them. If I had to carry the pots around individually it would take forever.
What recycling tips do you have for your garden?
Peppers
Two of my peppers have sprouted! I had to share the good news. I’m so excited about them, can you tell?
I”ll post a picture in a few days when they’re a bit bigger.
First Post
Well, this is my first post. I thought I’d share some of the seedlings I have going.
I have more but I’ll post them later.
